The MMBTS AGM is Thursday, November 19, 6:30-9:00pm, at Wolfe Calgary - Chevrolet GMC Buick. Register here
This year’s AGM brings changes to who is on the MMBTS board and how it is organized. Here’s the slate the board is putting forward. Every role is voted on individually by members at the AGM, so please attend. Your vote decides who leads MMBTS in 2027.
Every Role Gets Voted On
Each position on the slate below goes to a separate membership vote on November 19. None of these roles is confirmed until members vote, and the vote only works if enough members attend. If you can come, please do. If you know a fellow member who rides Moose or Prairie, bring them along.
Bylaw Amendment: Two-Year Director Terms. The AGM also includes an amendment to the MMBTS bylaws that changes director terms to two-year periods. Longer terms give directors time to learn a role and give the society more continuity from year to year, which matters most in volunteer positions with a lot to take on. The terms on this year’s slate were set with that continuity in mind
Nominated for Trails Director: Evan Krahn
Evan Krahn
After two seasons as Trails Director, Jeff Woodgate is stepping down from the role, with confidence that the incoming nominee is ready to do a very good job. Evan Krahn has been nominated to take over.
Jeff is nominated to remain on the board as a non-voting Director at Large. He has committed to attending all board meetings and providing whatever transition support Evan needs, for as long as Evan wants it. This is not a new position, it’s a way to keep the workload manageable for a volunteer, and mentorship is a key part of everyone’s success. Thank you, Jeff, for two seasons of leading Trails, and for staying on to help.
Nominated for Communications Director: Brook Spark
Brook Spark
Brook Spark has been nominated for Communications as Lauren Moggach is nominated to move into the Vice President role. This is a team effort and the board provides ongoing support to this role, Geoff Gay has been helping out in a major way with social content and engagement, and Lauren will continue to support with mentorship through the transition.
New Role Up for Vote: Compliance & Governance
Grayson Crockett
Grayson Crockett has been nominated for a new Compliance & Governance position. If elected, the role supports MMBTS’s Trail Management Agreement requirements with the Government of Alberta; record keeping, and serves as a point of contact with Alberta Forestry and Parks, helping ensure the society stays on top of the governance and safety requirements that come with operating on public land.
Structural Change: Events Rolled Into Races
MMBTS runs a relatively small number of standalone events each year, Kids Fest, Gate Razer, the Poker Rally, and general community socials among them. Going forward, that work is being folded into the Race Director role rather than run as a separate Events position. The board is also exploring a model where sponsors take direct ownership of running specific events, with MMBTS supporting on Temporary Field Authorization (TFA) requirements with the Government of Alberta, communications, and the website. More details as this develops.

Thank You to Our Outgoing Directors
Caroline Tremblay was the mastermind behind some of MMBTS's most successful community events, from Kids Fest to the Poker Rally, and had a huge impact on bringing this community together. Next time you see her shredding the trails, give her a solid high five.
Denis Streltsov stepped into Sponsorships when the society needed it, bringing sharp perspective and ideas that helped move our mission forward.
Thank you both for everything you've put into this board, we appreciate you so much.
Behind the Scenes: How MMBTS Runs
The MMBTS Board of Directors is entirely volunteer-run. The board and committee roles below are what it takes to maintain the trail network, run events and races, and keep this community connected. We’re sharing the full picture so you understand the work that goes into this society, and so you know where you could plug in if you’re interested in volunteering down the road.
We’re also supported by an incredible paid administrator, Sheila, who makes our work-life balance possible and supports every member of the board in their role.
Executive Roles
President Provides leadership to the board and sits as an ex officio member of all committees. Presides at Society and Board meetings when present.
Vice-President Acts as President when the President is unavailable. Also oversees membership: keeping the member database accurate (contact information, renewals, and payments), tracking membership growth and retention, and reporting on membership trends, including event-specific reports for member-only events.
Secretary Maintains the Society's non-financial records, attends all Society and Board meetings, keeps accurate minutes, handles correspondence.
Treasurer Receives and accounts for all Society funds, keeps financial books, and presents an audited financial statement at the AGM each year.
Race Director Oversees organizing of MMBTS race events and acts as a liaison for external race events as needed. Responsibilities include securing volunteers, compiling start lists and results, securing permits, insurance, and sponsorships, and marketing events alongside the Communications and Sponsorship committees. Builds a race schedule that maximizes participation for a grassroots series, with care not to conflict with other race series in the region. Leads the racing committee and other volunteers at scheduled races.
Sponsorship Director Maintains relationships with current sponsors and builds new ones with local businesses, helping secure the funds that support trails, events, and races. Makes sure every sponsor receives good business value for their contribution, and works with businesses to create new sponsorship opportunities such as Adopt-a-Trail, trail day hosting, event and Fiver sponsorship, the annual Sponsor Auction, and member discount partnerships. Coordinates sponsor logo representation, and recognition, and supports sponsors who host or run events with MMBTS. Busiest in winter and early spring around renewals and the auction, lighter during the riding season.
Trails Director Oversees the trail crew: hiring them, advocating for them, helping them prioritize projects and maintenance, and making sure they have the materials they need. Gathers feedback from the public and the executive and membership on trail conditions, hazards, and ideas for new trails or changes to existing ones. Coordinates with government on access issues and the yearly trail work plan, and with area stakeholders including wellsite operators, other trail societies, film production crews, race coordinators (mountain bike and running), and cattle ranchers. Schedules and plans public trail days, coordinates private group trail days, gives high-level direction to trail day leads, and ensures safety protocols are followed by the trail crew and at public trail days. Chairs the monthly Trails Committee meeting, trains interested volunteers to become trail leads, and tracks volunteer hours.
Communications Director Designing graphics for Instagram, Facebook, newsletters, and website events, to keep branding consistent. This includes building out fresh photo and video assets to keep visuals current. Turning board and community updates into engaging, stoke-filled posts, newsletters and website updates that stay true to MMBTS's tone while keeping riders informed on trail updates, events, and more. Responding to DMs, engaging with followers, and keeping an eye on @mmbtstrails to reshare trail condition updates. Working as the website manager to keep information consistent across the site and social channels, including event registration and shop updates.
Compliance & Governance Director A new board role focused on keeping MMBTS in good standing with the Government of Alberta. Supports the safety, record keeping, and data requirements of the TMA, acts as a point of contact with the Government of Alberta, and brings occupational health and safety, emergency preparedness, and emergency response experience to the board.
