T-DUB
Difficulty level: (Black) Advanced, downhill shuttle.
How to access: To access the trailhead, drive to the end of the Moose mountain road and head directly west towards the gated road to the gas plant. A cheater entry line exists directly left of the gate, but for the full on and complete trail, keep pushing for about 300 feet and sniff out the obvious trailhead aroma on your left. T-dub spits you out on the Canyon Creek road, where you pedal south (left) towards the Ing’s mine parking lot, where hopefully your driver or retrieval vehicle awaits.
Trail length: T-dub will take the average shredder around 40 minutes to an hour to complete.
Features: T-dub puts the mountain in mountain biking more so than most trails on Moose Mountain and it is the longest trail dropping into the west side of the mountain. T-dub is littered with technical steeps, plenty of rocks, an abundance of roots and both man made and natural Technical Trail Features (TTF). Best to be prepared and carry a means of fixing a potential flat tire because the hike out could be up to 4kms and the rocky terrain can bight at any moment. To enhance the sustainability of this trail a re-route of the gully section was completed in 2008. This option will enhance the appeal of the trail to a wider range of riders. Keeping left, after the steep crossing the first meadow (see picture top right)), accesses this non-gully option. This new line, adds a flowy side hill bench cut option, if you are not down with dealing with the tight and rocky technical aspects of the Balboa gully. The trails meet up again at the entrance to the 2nd meadow. Another option exists at the South end of this meadow. To the right is a fun segment of man made TTF’s with several airborne flight ops for your riding pleasure. Keeping left follows a fast flowy ridge and is the original T-dub line. The next trail junction occurs on a steep technical line with the left branch providing a ride around as opposed to the buttery natural rock drop feature to the right. The remainder of the trail traverses the side hills of the gully crossing it on several occasions and ends in a powerline clearing just up from Canyon Creek. End on a high and get your hip on with both a left and right hip option to natural tranny at the bottom of this trail. High five, fist punch, or flowy grin mandatory upon completion!
Look to see some major buffing and enhanced trail features on this gem of a trail for 2009.
Join the movement and find your flow!
