Riding Party and Trail Day A Success Reality
As June rolled in with its dampening, thunderous spirit, bikers awaited a break in Mother Nature’s wrath to find their flow! The call went out to MMBTS riders and June 13th /14th weekend promised to bring our growing community together for an epic weekend of riding and commitment to developing Moose Mountain trails.
Saturday’s riding party got underway with both freeride and xc communities gathering to set their sights for the day. The high spirits and
enthusiasm for the recently groomed and improved trails (thanks to May’s trail day crew) managed to hold the looming clouds at bay. As evening approached, riders began to bring their excitement ant tall tales back to the 2km locale for the feast! Many thanks to Ridley’s Cycle for the spread of burgers, bevies, dogs and munchies!
Energy continued to flow as a lightening strike shook the mountain, setting the vibe for the riding party that carried forward into Sunday’s Trail Day which brought visions and riders together to work toward a common goal. Sunday morning started strong with a number of trails on the hit list. With chain saws, mattocks, rakes and hatchets in tow, riders abandoned their bikes and brought it to the trails. With high goals and spirits, the riders branched off onto their respective trails and got down to it. The dirt and sweat flew as visions turned to reality.
Pneuma and JohnGuy on the Rocks were the focus on this day. With Pneuma getting pushed forward to the intersection with Race of Spades and beyond. This completion will open up a variety of new singletrack loops for the All mountain crowd. JeanGuy was buffed and bermed from top to bottom with a sweet new jump in the meadow traverse. A new line was started on Toothless, to circumvent the steep, rocky section and assist in opening up this trail to a greater range of riders. ROS was living up to its name, with a swack of dedicated riders armed with Spades, to give it some much-deserved love. SLF got TTF’d! Look for completion of a new feature at the bottom of this trail.
T-Dub experienced the Rat Attack! A small crew led by the Ratte family that seemed to get an endless amount of work completed. Yet again, a trail day that has leaped frogged our trail network. Lets keep this momentum running.
As the hard work and commitment to building our community began to shine through, the smell of the BBQ hosted by Calgary Cycle lured the crowd back again to celebrate a day of success at the 2km locale. Another huge thanks goes out to Calgary Cycle! They were out to help grow the flow for the Trail Day which brought out over 70 riders dedicated to the evolution of Moose Mountain Trails. Again, even the downpour did not dampen the spirits of our community. The dogs and munchies filled the gap as riders shared their accomplishments and visions for the next Trail Day to be announced soon. Hope to see you there!
MMBTS thanks everyone who was able to grow the flow and invites everyone to become apart of the movement!
Get involved!
