July 21 Trail Day Review

On July 21, 2010 MMBTS had it’s third official trail day of the year.  This was the first evening trail day and we had a decent turnout of about 25 hard working people.  TW, Jean Guy, and Pneuma all saw some trail love as dedicated volunteers raked berms, moved rocks, dug dirt, and shifted tress.

The evening started right on time at 7:00 as tools were quickly grabbed up for use, and the shuttles left for their separate trails. TW saw some of the lower berms smoothed out, some grooming around the rock drop, and a 30′ long tree and plenty of rocks and dirt was used to replace an old retaining structure that had rotted away. Work on Jean Guy included additional work on berms (with some heavy rock movement) near the bottom and the meadow.  A new route was cut in to avoid some problem areas.  Near the top you might notice some love put into a TTF.  The Pneuma crew started of a new re-route cut into the fresh hillside between Elbow Valley and Sulfur Springs. A few committed builders stayed out on Jean Guy until the moon told them to stop working.  The only reported injury was to a pick, and we are sad to say that its neck will never be used again.

Thanks to those that stopped in the middle of their ride to move rocks for a few minutes.  A few minutes is all it takes for a big contribution (plus, you get to be the very first to ride a newly buffed section after you leave).  Thanks to riders that stopped and offered words of praise to the builders, everyone likes to see their work appreciated and it is much more civil then just ripping through a work area.  Hopefully we will see you at our next trail day.  Also a thanks to the Freeride Coalition for taking time out of their normal ride day to work the trails.  The good karma and vibes that flow your way will lead to many smiling runs.

We always like to see all members of the riding community out to events, the young, the old(er), the first timers, the DHers, the AM and XCers, and the local bike shops.  The trails are ours to share and enjoy, lets continue to make them something to be proud of.

The next Official Trail Day is on Wednesday, August 18, 2010, at 7:00pm and we hope to see you all there.  But anytime, feel free to “Pile Rocks Here” if you see a sign, or remove the dead-fall after a storm.  And, as always, grow the flow and enjoy the ride!
