Just a quick update.

For those that do not know, we have been ingaging the City of Calgary to have several free to use bike parks around the city and finally seem to be moving forward. We met with the city last week and recieved about 10 possible sites to review for our next meeting, which we hope to have within the next month. We are going to keep on top of the city to ensure that these parks become more than just ideas scribbled on paper.

Keeping you posted

So have you had the meeting already?  Is there anything any of us can do to help make this a possibility.  If we show that there is support behind it then it's less likely to be shut down (like all attempts in the past)!  The city must know about how many cyclists there are, look at how the DJ's down by the glenmore resevour attract tons of attention.

Can anyone come to these meetings or are they closed door hush hush?

Speaking of the Glenmore jumps, the city just mowed em down. No more jumps.

I hope the new skills parks have pump tracks.

There's already more jumps in place down at glenmore!  We put in a sweet line berm to roller to double set!  I couldn't land em on my fully, you need lots of speed not to case them.

So this lovely tidbit shows up in my RSS reader this morning…

“I just designed a pair of tracks — one beginner and one advanced — for a new bike park in Calgary.”

Any chance it's the MMBTS-involved bike park?

Headed to Meeting #2 with the City of Calgary after reviewing the various sites they think would work for the criteria we had given them. I'll let you know how it goes. We will need support and have an email set up for this purpose. I'll post it after the meeting/weekend.

Cheers All

A long awaited update.

After yet another meeting with the city  last week they are actually getting serious about getting us a piece of land for a bike park. They are going to continue to look at new land sites as they come up, but are looking at one possibility that we had given them as our # 2 site. Not to get anyones hopes up, as dealing with the city and or provincial government can take some time in getting things done, however they are looking into the approval of all parties involved with this piece of land. If the approval is given, we move forward with the planing and funding of Calgary's first, of hopefully many, mountain bike skills parks. I have another meeting at the end of may with the city unless approvals are given before then. Could be today, could be a year from now……….

Cheers A
