Spring Bike Festival
June 1st Moose Mountain Bike Trail Society attended Mountain Equipment Co-op Bike Fest. The festival was held from 10am to 4pm on a sunny Saturday in Eau Claire. The festival’s range of participants, and clinics attracted many different bikers, and a number of people who were just getting into, or returning to the sport. Many festival goers were eager to learn about our society, pick up trail maps, and express interest in trail days, shuttles and races. (The next trail day is Sunday June 16th by the way).
The festival of bikes included live music, food vendors, trail riding, commuting and repair clinics, and there was even a very popular pump track – which, to much disappointment, was disassembled at the end of the day. The Calgary Mountain Bike Alliance shared a spot next to MMBTS and we are happy to confirm that rumours of a Fish Creek pump track are true. http://metronews.ca/news/calgary/694021/alberta-designates-3-5-acres-of-calgarys-fish-creek-park-for-mountain-biking/
Logging on Moose Mountain
Logging has already come to West Bragg Creek and is moving west to Moose Mountain. This issue is extremely sensitive for all of the stakeholders involved: from trail groups, to the provincial government, to residents of Bragg Creek, to the logging companies involved, to the general public of Alberta. With all of these groups (some with extremely different agendas publicly or within the group itself) it also creates an extremely complicated issue. In this article, we will attempt to explain how the Moose Mountain Bike Trail Society (MMBTS) is representing our trails and community in a balanced and fair way in the space of something that fits on a readable webpage. Trail Day Review
Big thanks to everyone who came out on Saturday to dig new trail on Family Guy and help buff some of the other trails in preparation for the gate opening this week. With 82 volunteers signed in, we had enough man power to send crews down T-Dub, Jean Guy, and Billy Dog and still have enough muscle to do some serious damage to the remaining trail to be dug on Family Guy. First Trail Day of the Year – Saturday May 4th
MMBTS will be holding its first trail of the year this Saturday, May 4th. Moose Mountain received a significant amount of precipitation in the past week in the form of snow, but as of this afternoon southerly aspects at lower elevations are clear of snow and frost-free, it’s time to dig! MMBTS in Print
We all know that the trails at Moose Mountain are the best around, but how can we tell everyone else? How about good old printed media, and it would only be better if publications found us. MMBTS has been fortunate enough to been published in both a new Kananaskis specific trail guide and a recent issue of the popular Explore magazine! Read More »
